After arriving in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco State, he met his cousin and brother-in-law, Mr. John H. Boxwell, in Maceio (in Alagoas State). They then started J.H. BOXWELL & CO., which started trading sugar and cotton imports and exports, as well as acting as Shipping Agents.
