KIEV, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Ukraine's sugar refineries had produced the first 204,410 tonnes of white sugar from the 2007 beet crop as of October 1, compared with 280,640 by the same date in 2006, the Ukrtsukor sugar union said on Thursday.
The union said 75 refineries had received 3.59 million tonnes of beet and had already processed 2.04 million.
The government has said the 2007 sugar beet crop is likely to fall to 16-17 million tonnes from about 23 million in 2006. White sugar output is likely to fall to up to 1.8 million tonnes this year from 2.6 million in 2006.
