The removal of the pieces of the TEFFE and ITAPEMA rocks, which are underwater on the access canal, should begin within approximately 2 weeks, to be more precise as from August 15th as per guarantee from the Secretary of Ports. The beginning of such works still depend on the mobilization of the barges which will be engaged on such task/operation. Same will carry the removed pieces of the rocks from its origin till the wharf/jetty.
Both rocks are obstacles to the navigation on the port complex as same reduce the width and the depth of the canal. The TEFFE rock is situated on the direction of shed n. 26 and the ITAPEMA one is located on the direction of shed n. 12.
In accordance with prospects of principals of Dock Co., they expect the full conclusion of such job till December which will coincide with the removal of the parts of the wrecked vessel "Ais Giorgis" on the year of 1974.
As per logistic plans of Dock Co., the removal works will be started by the pieces of the TEFFE stone in order not to harm the arrival of Cruise Ships at Santos port. Coming-up-next, removal of the pieces of the ITAPEMNA stone will happen.
FYI, a clamshell type dredger will be responsible for the removal of the pieces of both stones from the bottom of the canal. Such equipment is already in the port and just waiting for the mobilization of the barges as mentioned above.
