Finally, the Federal Government will be able to announce the deepening of the draft of the access canal of Santos harbor after so long counting from its beginning on 2010. Although the initial project would stipulate/foresee the deepening of the access canal to 15,00 meters, the depth found by the Brazilian navy was between 14,50 and 14,90 meters.
Basis such announced figures, the depth established for Santos should increase from 12,30 to 13,20 meters on the low tide and from 13,30 to 14,20 meters on the high tide. Such new measures (depths) will be approved within the next weeks since maneuvers simulations and re-positioning of buoys are still required to take place.
According to the Harbor Master of Santos port, as per safety rules, the authorized depth must be of at least 10% lesser than the one of the canal.
