CORN EXPORTS MAY ENCOURAGE THE PLANTING IN THE WINTER CROP

The intense pace of Brazilian corn exports may stimulate the
planting of corn in the winter crop, evaluates the Center for
Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), linked to
the School of Agriculture Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ / USP). In
weekly bulletin released this week, the center of studies
points out that corn prices in the domestic market have been
driven by exports, more competitive due to the appreciation
of the US dollar against the Brazilian Real. In the first two
weeks of December, Brazilian corn exports maintained the
strong pace. According to data from the Foreign Trade
Secretariat (Secex) compiled by Cepea were exported 3.11
million in the first two weeks of the month, 90% of which was
exported throughout the month of December 2014. Cepea
evaluates that, if the pace of shipments remains, Brazilian
corn exports will hit a new monthly record even with the
celebrations of the holidays.
