NORTH-NORTHEAST REGION DECREASED RATE OF CRUSHING AND SUGARCANE HARVEST SHOULD BE SMALLER

During the second half of November 4.08 million tons of
sugarcane were processed in the North-Northeast region of
Brazil. This volume represented a decline of 4% over the
previous fortnight and 11.4% over the same period of last
season. The decrease of the grinding pace is due to the
predominantly dry climate, which has further hampered the
odds on the 2015/16 crop. In the state of Alagoas, for
example, sugarcane processing fell 11.2% compared to one
year. Since the rains were 91.2% lower than expected for the
month of November. There is possibility of crop close of
anticipation in the region, taking note of the low availability of
cane in the field, the result of drought throughout 2015. If
there is no more rain for the next months, the grinding may
be lower than expected.
