The “IBAMA” (Brazilian environment agency) signed on Nov. 24th an environment license to carry out dredging through out the Santos Canal.
The Document authorizes special ports department (SEP) to start the assignment in order to optimize port handling capacity. Estimated period
of work will be of 12 months upon commencement.
With the contract signed it will still require at least 34 days for the dredgers to arrive at Santos port.
The next step to be taken will be batimetry, which will serve to measure each point of the Santos canal, only after this is done, Port Authority (Codesp) will be able to proceed with the dredge deepening the channel up to 15 meters.
Presently the channel (entrance of channel) up to shed nº 29 has a draft of
13,30 meters and from shed nº 29 to Alamoa terminal a draft of 12.20 meters.
